Administration guide:
Confirm hypoglycaemia (low BM) and patient unable to consume orally
Confirm seal on orange box is not broken, and drug is in date
Using alcohol prep wipe, clean injection site (typically upper aspect of Humerus, below humeral head)
Twist orange box to break seal
Remove orange cap from glass vial and place on hard, flat surface
Unsheath needle on pre-filled syringe and insert into bung on top of glass vial
Inject contents of syringe into glass vial and gently shake or spin to mix liquid and powder
Once all powder is dissolved, withdraw needle into viewing window (small cut-out in collar of vial)
Draw up all contents of glass vial into syringe, ensuring no powder remains
Warn patient of a 'sharp scratch' and inject needle into muscle at prepared site, perpendicular to skin, at least 3/4 depth of needle
Withdraw plunger slightly to ensure no blood is present. If blood is present, withdraw fully and re-attempt
Slowly but firmly push plunger and inject all contents of syringe
Withdraw needle and gently massage injection site to disperse drug
Place all sharps into sharps bins as soon as practicable. Do not hand sharps to other people.
