A major incident is defined as an event or situation with a range of serious consequences which requires special arrangements to be implemented by one or more emergency responder agency. Β
Any responder on scene can declare a major incident.
Declaring a Major Incident?
Give a METHANE report:
MAJOR INCNDENT DECLARED?
First person on scene:
Stay with your vehicle and maintain radio/phone comms with control room
Do not attempt to treat or triage casualties
Handover comprehensive METHANE report to control room
Stay as you are until relieved by an incident commanderΒ
Mass casualty triage (Ten Second Triage):
In mass casualty incidents, the first person(s) on scene should NOT attempt rescue.
Instead they should perform a 'Ten Second Triage' and assess/mark casualties as below:
